Cigarroa Middle School opened its doors for the first time in 1983. Valentin Ortegon was the Principal and the mascot (a Bulldog) was appropriately named - Val the Bulldog. The school is named after a prominent medical doctor (family) here in Laredo - Dr. Joaquin Gonzalez Cigarroa.
